Douglas McQuarrie who studied the
mysterious light through powerful binoculars
from his 36-foot fishing boat berthed at
Commercial Inlet. It consisted of a very large
number of very tiny lights which were quivering
in space. It moved out of sight behind pilings
in the harbor. It glowed in the night sky about
1,000 feet above Mt. Benson on January 1st,
1969, moving slowly and gradually fading. Mr.
McQuarrie said that sometimes the light
separated into two distinct groups and then
assembled again. It was first seen at 7:04 p.m.
and faded at 7:20 p.m.
