Richmond Family "Watches UFO"

Richmond, BC - April 9, 1968

Another UFO has been seen over Richmond.

What she describes as “a glowing orange light in the sky” was seen Tuesday last week by 11-year-old Patricia De Boer, 609 Udy Road, as she was getting into bed.

Patricia looked from her bedroom window, noticed the strange light and called her father, mail-worker Henry De Boer. They watched it for several minutes. It hovered where Patricia had first seen it, but later started to move slowly in a northerly direction.

Patricia and her father ran downstairs and told Mrs. Patsy De Boer what they had seen. All three went outside the house and stood watching the light “for about half an hour,” said Mrs. De Boer.

“It seemed to be quite high in the sky,” she said, “and was a glowing orange in color. It was moving slowly in a northerly direction and we could see it quite clearly. We watched it until it finally vanished behind some clouds. It didn’t re-appear.

None of the De Boer family had ever seen a UFO before, Mrs. De Boer said, although they had always been interested in reading about people who claimed to have seen UFOs.

“When we saw your story about the UFO the Burnaby woman saw,” she said, “we realized that maybe we had seen a genuine UFO. We still don’t believe in spaceships from outer space - but now that we have seen this light in the sky, we don’t really disbelieve, either.”

“I guess you could say we are wondering.”
