Past Events Tuesday, October 19, 2010 7 PM – UFO Panel at Vancouver Public Library On October 19th, 2010 at 7 PM the Vancouver Public Library (main branch) is hosting “Threshold of Contact: Exploring an Extraterrestrial Hypothesis for UFO Origins” a panel presentation. Every year there are thousands of reported sightings of UFOs around the world. An overwhelming majority of these can be explained by commonplace phenomena. However, some sightings defy explanation. Many investigators have concluded that some UFO sightings may have origins in advanced technologies from extraterrestrial civilizations. These presentations explore this theme: UFOs: The Official Response – by Brian Ruhe (Vancouver UFO Meetup Group) Brian provides a brief overview of the modern history of UFOs and how the phenomena has influenced our society, outlining government response, mass media coverage and the reaction from scientists and religious authorities. Giant UFO in the Yukon – presented by Martin Jasek (UFO*BC) In December 1996, a giant UFO was observed by dozens of witnesses in several locations in the Yukon Territory. Martin Jasek presents the findings of his investigation which he conducted while living in the Yukon in the late 1990s. Taken by the Starmen? – presented by Gord Heath (UFO*BC) In November 1953 a USAF jet disappeared over Lake Superior after merging with an unknown blip it was scrambled to identify. Was the bogie an RCAF C-47 as the USAF claimed or is there a greater mystery behind the disappearance? The presentations will be followed by a period for questions from the audience. The presentation is part of the libraries “One Book, One Vancouver” annual program to promote reading and public discussion relating to a chosen book. This year’s selected book is “The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy” by Douglas Adams. http://www.vpl.ca/obov/events2010.html Seating is limited; all are welcome. Admission is free.
